Are you looking for the Indian Scout 741 maintenance guide? I found it! So I’m sharing the link with you below.
Have you missed the part where I explain that I’m starting a new adventure with my dad? We are rebuilding his vintage bike, an Indian Scout from 1941! You can read about it on this page which explains it all. Once done, I’ll probably go on a road trip with this bike. But that’s going to take some time…
As you may have read then, you already know that my dad took apart the Indian Scout 741 he had bought when he was young and put it into boxes. Years later, at retirement, he put it back together. No guide, no nothing, just memory and lots of trying and errors.
However, he never had the guide. There are things he never really knew. Like, how to exactly fine tune the carburetor. So I thought it would be super useful to find it and finally, I did!
And maybe, in my previous articles on how I found a new batterie for the bike and maybe especially in the one on how we repaired the clutch, you may have noticed a couple technical terms. Maybe you even thought I was already good at this!? OK ok maybe not and seriously, I don’t expect you to!!
But now, you know my little secret, I have the maintenance manual for the bike!
So where can you find it? On www.indian-france.com
There you will find:
- the operation and maintenance manual
- the parts and price list
- a useful little guide on How to make the most of your motorcycle
And for French speakers, you will also find a technical dictionary of English / French vocabulary. On one side, if you’re like me, not too bad in English, you may get by without it but on the other side, being quite fluent doesn’t mean you know all the technical terms. This guide should therefore come in handy.
You can find those for various models of Indian motorcycles as well as Harley Davidson.
Clutch tension spring plate, release worm, ball retainer??! What the hell are those? Well I had no clue either and I don’t even know those names in French! (you have realized by now that I’m French, right?) So yeah those guides are great.
Now the funny thing about the part list is that it has the prices from the 40s. Needless to say, it’s super useful to have the exact reference of the parts, but you’ll cry your eyes out when comparing the prices indicated to the prices today.
Here you are. Like me, you have the guides that are going to help you rebuilt your Indian Scout. But what you may not have is a super dad like mine! So maybe you should keep following my adventures!!
Pin this for later if you wish
Yes I’m studying the maintenance guide while drinking tea and I have a Hello Kitty pen to take notes! I’m a girl, you know!!
