A little update report to let you know I’m alright and looking forward to a brighter future! Plus the usual stuff…
Welcome to RTatW update report! A little series where, every now and then, I share with you some personal info, updates on my life & on RTatW of course, as well as sneak peeks…
Autumn was going to be great. As I was getting ready for my big solo road trip, the excitement was rising. I was preparing slowly. Adding carefully chosen items to the pile, I was to take with me.
My vintage folding silver cup was going to be perfect to sip on the pineau I was bringing. Just one bottle! Weirdly, while I was preparing, I hear the Cup song “I got my ticket for the long way round, Two bottle of whiskey for the way…” and I thought to myself “no, not whiskey but pineau will be great. And one bottle should be enough!!”
I had prepared my tripod, a map of the stars and a comfy Scottish blanket. My little stove and boiler were ready too… I was light on the cooking gear but could manage with what I had. I had packed a pretty dress and hiking boots…
My plans included some visits of historical places & amazing castles but also some hiking. I wanted to spend time in the mountains, in cosy lodges or outdoor, stargazing and doing some light painting photography.
And it started so well. For a couple days, I was in heaven and then… I went to hell…
What’s new on RTatW?
Let me first tell you about a couple new articles and down below, you’ll find the other stuff…
New articles you may have missed
So the beginning of this trip was glorious and I have now managed to share with you some of the places I went to. Not the most famous sites in France but so worth it!
Getting to see Le Corbusier Chapel at Notre Dame du Haut again was perfect but staying at the Royal Saltworks at Arc et Senans was an amazing experience.
The Abbey of Fontenay had been on my BID list for a long time so I was extremely happy to get to see it. Hope you like it too!
I haven’t yet managed to post the next part of my trips which included the Vezeley Church, the Guedelon castle, an incredible, crazy project and the Bourges cathedral. Now, you know what’s coming!
You see, I had promised more articles on France so I’ve tried to stay focused. But if I keep focusing on France like this, I’ll never catch up with the other places I still want to tell you about! What a dilemma!
In addition, I finally managed to take you to the Chateau d’Amboise and the Chateau de Chambord, 2 of the gems of the Loire Valley. Such beauties!
As I know you are a smart traveler and to help you plan you next trip to Europe, I shared with you, 2 small books which will help you brush up on your European history. They include maps! Because geopolitic is a fascinating approach to history.
Lastly, I shared with you a few tips on how to store your camping gear and what you may want to consider upgrading or simply adding to your Christmas list so you are ready for next camping season.
A new mini guide!! Yep, yep hooray!!
Well, I suppose you’ve already got your copy of my newest mini guide?! But just in case you missed it, let me tell you: it’s epic! OK maybe it isn’t but if you’re planning a trip to Europe, you’ll be so glad to have it. It’s about Roman architecture and will help you recognize the most common Roman buildings even if in ruins. Check it out!
A new adventure: rebuilding my dad’s Indian Scout
One day, I’ll do a road trip on my dad’s Indian Scout. For now I’ll share with you what an adventure it is to rebuild it! I don’t know how things will go. There is no guarantee that we’ll succeed but I thought some of you might be interested by the whole journey.
As I explain on the main page about this new adventure, for now, it is a lot more than just rebuilding my dad’s bike. Do check it out the Indian Scout page, if you want to understand.
So it may sounds weird to you, that I’ve decided to add this new theme on RTatW, but I gave some thoughts to this and I realized why not! If others are showing their van conversion, I could certainly show the rebuilding process of the bike that will take me on new road trips! One day…
Other news
I’ll be skipping my usual ‘other news’ part for this RTatW update because there isn’t much to discuss. I was gone for over 2 months and not really capable of doing anything but worrying to death.
We’re not even going to talk about my Instagram or other social media! 😉
There’s just one thing I want to point out: If you read my last RTatW report, you may recall I mentioned I was going to test having more adds around and more affiliated links, like Booking.
I’m still in a bit torn about this but at the same time, 2 months with almost 0 regular income hurts! So, yeah… more adds!
And you can still give a hand by shopping on my Society6 shop or using my links to do your shopping on Amazon or your Booking reservations! Thank you so much in advance!!
Do know, that you will be helping a Gal rebuilt her dad’s Indian Scout bike!!
Last thoughts…
Something came back to my mind a while ago. One day, I was filing all my dad’s medical documents that were pilling up and somewhere, in the middle, I found the creased paper, where I had laid my road trip itinerary.
It suddenly reminded me that I had previously written that, 2018 would be “the year of uncomplicated travel”. And for most part, it was. With this solo road trip, I didn’t think I was really straying from this non-binding rule. But I guess I was and I thought it was quite ironic…
Next time I’ll double think about writing something like that!! Instead I’ll probably write something like this for next year: 2019 will be filled with amazing trips. All the trips I have been dreaming of, like trips to Petra, Vancouver and Chichen Itza! Dear Universe, this isn’t a definitive list, let me think about it a while longer before setting it in stone!

That’s it for this RTatW update! I wish you the best Holiday season possible!
Lots of love
