For a starter, I’ll assume that you have all the essential items. If you’re not sure, you can use my handy camping checklist which is linked below.
I’ll also assume that it’s not your first time camping! That you know how to choose a good camping spot, that you know how to start a fire, that you know how to stay safe, pack food appropriately, etc…
So now that we have settled this and that you already have most necessary gear to go camping, let’s see what other little things you need, to make your camping trip extra romantic?
For a romantic evening
You’ll need wine! OK, it doesn’t have to be wine, it can be champagne! 😉
Just kidding, if you d’ont drink alcohol, that’s cool, but in any case, you’ll need to have something to drink.
I can’t stand drinking wine from plastic. It’s disgusting! On the other hand, I usually don’t mind drinking from my very basic stainless mug, but for an extra romantic touch, stainless tumblers are nice. The one below are insulated, so the wine or else doesn’t warm up too fast when staying close to the fire!
Obviously, you’ll need to have some food as well. You really should test your cooking abilities beforehand. Why? Because, first time cooking on an open fire with a bran new iron cast pan is a sure recipe for disaster! Do read down below for additional pieces of camping wisdom…
So once you had a nice dinner and the wine (or else!) is still flowing, it’s time to get comfy!
Therefore, you may need a blanket to keep bae warm. Extra point if the blanket is for 2 so you can wrap up together! Fleece blanket are extra soft but you need to be careful with the fire.
You should also consider bringing some ambiance lights. Solar fairy lights are great for that and led lights last super long.
Bonus: you can later hang those on your balcony or in your garden. When looking at them, you’ll remember what an amazing camping trip you had!
You may think you’ll be sitting by the fire, and that will be romantic enough but the fire won’t provide that much light so those could help.
At the very least, you should have a portable light that you can keep in the tent or carry around. Head lamps are great but not sexy!
You think nothing can ruin a romantic night out? Think again! Mosquitos and other bug bites are what hell is made off! Be prepared and bring some mosquitos repellent!
Mosquitos repellent is not romantic but it is a romance saver!
For a romantic night
If your tent is pocket size, then it can make things difficult. Hummm…
Rent or borrow a big tent like a Bell tent, if needed. That’s a glamping heaven! You’ll need extra accessories to make it cosy, like rugs but it’s worth it!
Bell tents are heaven!
You probably have a sleeping bag but for a romantic night under the star, you really need a sleeping bag for 2. It just makes things easier, you know… And you need one that is extra soft on the skin and comfy!
You should bring baby wipes to wipe things, you know, after…. hummm ok… you know what I mean? It’s dark out there, you probably don’t want to go out after… Got it? If you don’t, bring them anyway and keep them in the tent! With a small bag to dispose of the used wipes and other things…
For a romantic morning!
Get a morning after hat for bae! A nice little touch that they will enjoy! 😉

Extra tips for an extra romantic camping experience
Know in advance where you’ll be camping. At least you should know the area, know it’s safe.
You also need to make sure that open fires are authorized. Open fire are key to romance, but you don’t want to burn a whole forest down.
Do consider preparing your camp site the day before. You don’t want to loose any precious time with bae, do you? I’m not saying you should put your tent up but you can at least chose the right spot, make sure it’s flat, that they aren’t any rocks, or ants or else… You can also prepare the space where you’ll be starting the fire. Put some rocks around, find a nice log to sit on… And stock enough dry wood to last the evening. You don’t really want to live bae alone, in the middle of the evening, because you run out of wood.
If bae is not used to camping, you may consider making things easier for them with regards to number 1 & potentially 2. Prepare a little space? Or choose a location that has public bathrooms close by.
Cooking on an open fire isn’t that easy. I’ve mentioned this quickly above. So do either prepare your diner in advance or practice cooking with your iron cast pan.
For breakfast, use your camping stove to make coffee & breakfast. You did bring it, didn’t you? You probably won’t want to start a new fire anyway.
Before leaving your campsite, make sure it’s clean and the fire is safely out. It’s never romantic to be with someone who isn’t respectful of nature.
