It’s been already 3 years since our last US road trip…. Way too long! So I’ve been day dreaming about our next Road Trip and thought I should share with you the perfect itinerary and the map I drew.
It would probably look something like that:
Flying in an out from the same airport is more classical but loop road trip can be a bit more tricky to organise than one way trips. Who wants to drive the same highway twice when there is so much to discover?!
So we would be flying in to Denver. I haven’t been for years but have found memories of the hot springs, the buffalos and the breathtaking views.
Mesa Verde National Park would be our next stop, followed closely by Arches National Park. Last time, we only had time to hike to the Delicate Arch. Next time, I will come prepared to stay for the sunset and if Mr A is patient enough, we would also stay to photograph the milky way a thousand time!
The hike to Devils Garden and the Landscape arch would also be on our diary.
Going back to Monument Valley is a no brainer. But I know my heart would already be racing in anticipation of our next stop: Antelope Canyon, my very favorite canyon! This time, nothing will stop me! We will go in the lower canyon, the upper one and walk around everything in between. I heard about boat trips from lake Powell and even if I can’t imagine it being the same as walking in the narrow parts of the canyon, we will try this as well. I don’t think I can ever get enough of so much beauty.
This time we will also find Horseshoe bend. Don’t even ask me how we managed to miss it last time!
Next stops will be the Wave and Brice Canyon National Park. I’ve never been there yet and it’s almost embarrassing to admit, considering how many times I’ve been oh so very close by.
I also can’t imagine being so close to the Grand Canyon and not stopping, no matter how many times I have already been. But this time, maybe we should try the North rim, and hopefully do some rafting down the Colorado river.
Next on the map is Vegas but quite frankly I would almost prefer to avoid it. Somehow when you’ve been surrounded by peace and beauty, Vegas is a bit too crowded and too shiny.
Driving through Death Valley on route to Sequoia National Forest might be a bit tricky, but we’ll try before heading back to Yosemite National Park for long hikes and so many more pictures!
Coming back to San Francisco will be a treat. I just love San Francisco and would move there if I could (and maybe I will one day!). It will be hard to leave it behind one more time, even if the road to Los Angeles is amazing. Seeing the ocean after so much time spent in the desert is rejuvenating!
And maybe the trip will not come to an end in San Diego, maybe this could be the starting point for our trip to Mexico! It’s less than 2,000 miles after all…
