Welcome to Road Trips around the World, a website and blog where you can find resources and information to organise the road trip of your life!
This is Miss Coco, the creator of this site. To comply with certain laws and regulations, it is important that I give you various information on this website. You may already have seen my general funky / weird Terms & Conditions? If you haven’t, you should check them out, as well as my Privacy Policy. Here, I’ll be specifically telling you about cookies!
What is RTatW Cookie Policy and what does it do?
RTatW Cookie Policy tells you what to expect when you visit RTatW and what cookies are being used (the “Cookie Policy“).
This Cookie policy form an integral part of general Terms & Conditions that apply when you use RTatW. By visiting and using RTatW you confirm that you accept this Cookie Policy, consent to the practices described in this Cookie Policy and that you agree with this Cookie Policy.
What are cookies and what do they do?
Cookies are very small text files that are stored on your computer for reference purposes. There are all sorts of cookies but the most common ones are session cookies and persistent cookies.
Some cookies are session cookies and expire when your browser is closed. Session cookies make it easier for you to navigate websites.
Some are persistent cookies which may stay on your hard drive for an extended period. Persistent cookies can for example store your password for forums or blogs so you do not have to sign in every time you visit. Persistent cookies can also be used to enable websites to track and target the interests of their users so as to enhance the overall experience of using such website.
What sort of Cookies are used on RTatW?
RTatW utilizes industry standard analytics packages which gathers automatically, limited information on visitors. This information may include IP addresses, browser type, basic IP information, referring pages, operating system used and date/time stamps. This information does not identify individual users. Such information is used only for site administration, as well as for analysis of website usage and trends.
Additionally, cookies may be used to provide easier and faster access to website features such as logins and/or repeat visits.
More about the cookies used?
Well my Darlings, I have little clues!
I can give you a few more examples but I’m not quite a pro on this topic and by no way this list can be considered exhaustive.
Google Analytics
Google Analytics, which is a third-party service I use, does collect standard internet log information and details of visitors’ behavior patterns. Google use this information to compile reports on RTatW activity which enable me to improve, slowly I admit, its design & content.
WordPress
Same as Google Analytics, I think! WordPress must be using cookies because they do provide activity reports.
Third-Party Advertising (mainly Google AdSense)
RTatW uses third-party advertising companies to serve ads. Such third-party advertising companies collect information when you visit RTatW. These companies may use information (not including your name, address, email address, or telephone number) about your visits to RTatW and other websites in order to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to you. For more information about this practice and to understand your opt-out choices, please click here.
They may use cookies but also other technologies like web beacons to collect or receive information and serve targeted ads. You can opt-out of the collection and use of information for ad targeting if it bothers you, by visiting this website.
I have no access to or administration abilities over any cookies that are used by any third-party advertising companies on RTatW.
Affiliate marketing (mainly Amazon)
As you may have noticed, I use affiliated links, mostly from Amazon, when I recommend products that I love and think you may love too. These affiliated links must be surrounded by cookies but I don’t really know?!
If they are, I have no access to or administration abilities over any such cookies.
What if you hate cookies?
You may refuse the use of cookies by selecting the appropriate settings on your browser. For more information about this practice and to understand your opt-out choices, please visit this website.
Do note that if you do so, there is a slight risk that RTatW won’t look its best, the next time you visit. It might be slower too, so be patient!
Conclusion
Cookies are not terribly bad or scary. They help improve user experience and personally, I prefer seeing targeted ads than non targeted ones!
I like the fact that no one is trying to sell me a steak, when I’m vegan. I like that, every now and then, I get to discover a great eco-friendly outdoor company through an ad. It’s much better than seeing ads for useless piece of kitchen utensils, or any other stuff I don’t like and don’t use. Targeted ads actually help me live in my internet bubble!
As for you when you visit RTatW?
As mentioned in my general Terms & Conditions, I just do my best around here. I keep things as safe as possible, I use reliable third-party plugins and service providers, etc. There is nothing super fancy about what I do.
But I do have to tell you that:
1- cookies are used around RTatW and
2- by using RTatW, you consent to the processing of data about you, in the manner and for the purposes set out above.
Again, cookies do not enable me or third parties to identify you personally.
